Review and approve Soundation Education in Google Workspace to enable students under the age of 18 to keep access
Your school's Google Workspace admin needs to review all the apps their school currently accesses before the October 23rd to enable that users below 18 years of age should be able to use third party apps, such as Soundation Education.
What happens after October 23rd?
- Users designated as under 18 cannot access any 3rd party app that was not configured with an access policy by Google Workspace for Edu admins. Those users will see a new error message that allows them to request access from their admins.
- This applies to all third party applications that integrate with Google Workspace using OAuth. This includes apps that use Google SSO, but also includes apps that integrate more deeply with Google Workspace to build on top of Drive, Classroom, etc.
- Note: When rolling out new changes, it may take a few weeks for all Edu customers to get these updates. Customers should expect these changes to occur up to a few weeks following Oct 23, 2023 for their users designated as under 18.
How can Google Workspace for Edu admins configure my app after October 23rd? After October 23rd, this is how Workspace for Edu admins can approve access to your app:
- Admins will still be able to access the guided confirmation experience for some time after the deadline, through the butterbar.
- Admins can configure apps within Google Admin Console under API Controls. If users designated as under 18 request access to apps, admins will see a list of all the requested apps prioritized by number of requests.
